Family Counselling Sessions

Our Parent Intake Session is a 45-minute virtual session designed to provide an opportunity for parent(s) to share relevant history background information and an understanding of the current challenges. During the session, we will explore parental hopes for therapy.  Please share any IEP or diagnostic reports prior to this session as well as complete your child's intake form, including current medication(s).  Following the Parent Intake session, the summary will be emailed to you to confirm accuracy.

During our Child/Youth Intake Session, the child/youth has the opportunity to share their perspective on the challenges currently faced.  We will explain the therapy process and concepts of consent and confidentiality, as well as explore child-created goals for therapy.  In this way, we ensure that children/youth feel ownership in the therapeutic process.

In the family goal setting session, we will review the child, goals, family, history, and clarify the parent goals for family counseling. During the session, we will establish and book session times, expectations, and draft a tailored treatment plan.  This is also an opportunity to make any referrals and discuss potential involvement of other professionals to further support the child / youth and family.  Depending on the client needs, this session may be parents-only, or may involve the child / youth.

Family counselling sessions are 45 minutes, typically in person. A summary email will be sent to parents following each session with feedback and homework to complete at home between sessions.
