virtual
child & youth counselling
Virtual Child & Youth Counselling may include play therapy, art therapy or talk-based therapy (exposure-response, cognitive-behavioural or mindfulness-based therapy). Virtual sessions are not appropriate for all clients, but can be particularly effective for clients who will be more comfortable in their home space, face transportation barriers or prefer working with technology-based systems.
For virtual play therapy sessions, we may use age-appropriate online games and videos through screen sharing or collaborative websites. These games are carefully screened to ensure safety and therapeutic benefit. For other children, they may wish to use toys available in their home environment.
Requirements for virtual child & youth counselling include a good internet connection and a quiet space that will not have interruptions. For virtual play therapy a computer rather than a tablet is preferrable (tablets do not allow access to all play therapy websites used). An additional parent session may be required prior to starting virtual child & youth therapy, in order to determine environmental and technological requirements.
in person
child & youth counselling
In-person child and youth counselling works best for play therapy and art therapy. Clients who are low-verbal or non-verbal, very young children and clients who struggle with on-line interactions may be more appropriate for in-person counselling rather than virtual counselling sessions. Our therapy room is a large space that offers opportunities for play therapy and art therapy.
in person

autism screening
Registered Clinical Counsellors are not licensed to diagnose autism in BC, however, we can conduct screening services that help parents determine if they want to move forward with expensive private assessments, remain on lengthy public assessment waitlists or begin therapies such as SLP, OT or PT while waiting for a full autism assessment. Through a parent-intake session, a child and parent observation session, and completion of screening reports (ASQ, ASQ-SE, ADOS-2, SCQ, M-CHAT/R/F, PEDS or PEDS/DM, or ABAS-3), parents are given detailed information to help guide their "next step" decisions for their child. A summary report is provided, and a follow up family navigation session is available to discuss the report and observations and provide information on how to navigate the school or medical systems if further assessment or support is recommended.
in person
harm reduction & safety planning
We offer short-term harm reduction and safety planning to help families create a safe environment in times of crisis. We provide support and guidance to help children/youth identify and reduce risky behaviours, while developing healthy coping skills and strategies. We will work with you and your family to create a unique safety plan to ensure their safety and well-being, as well as identify behaviours of concern that may require urgent medical attention.
